John A. Coburn – Managing Director, XPV Capital Corporation

Mr. Coburn is Managing Director, XPV Capital Corporation, a Canadian venture capital firm investing in North America, focused on companies developing technology solutions in water. By providing active, strategic, financial and operational expertise to the management of their portfolio companies, XPV plays a primary role in helping to “change the slope” of their growth and path to success.

He is a Founding 100 Member of the National Angel Organization and a former member of the Toronto Angel Group. Mr. Coburn is currently Chairman of EnviroTower Inc., a director of APTwater Inc. and International Club Network, and a science advisor to Acuity Financial. Between 1987 and 2003, he served as a director of ZENON Environmental Inc.
Prior to his retirement in 2002, Mr. Coburn played a leadership role in the growth and management of ZENON and its subsidiaries. He was instrumental in developing ZENON—which began as a small Canadian company in 1982—to its current position as a world leader in the design and supply of water and wastewater treatment systems using membrane technology. Prior to his work at ZENON, Mr. Coburn held numerous distinguished positions with Environment Canada between 1972 and 1982. He received a Government of Canada Merit Award in 1982 for dedication, devotion and excellence of work with respect to the analysis of toxic substances in the Great Lakes; and in 2002, was recognized with the “Architect of ZENON” award for helping build the company from start-up to a world leader in water treatment.

Mr. Coburn holds a B.Sc. with Honours in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo and is a Chartered Director graduating from McMaster University’s DeGroote Business School.
